The use of point-of-sale (POS) machines and other electronic mobile money transaction devices within police stations and facilities across Nigeria has been outlawed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.
The restriction is in reaction to public concerns over suspected unlawful transactions involving POS operators and specific police personnel, according to police spokeswoman Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Adejobi underlined that those who disobey the order will face harsh consequences. The ban is intended to stop corrupt activities and preserve discipline within the police.
The IGP has emphasized the non-negotiable nature of compliance because some police commands and formations have ignored the regulation in spite of prior warnings.
The IGP has threatened administrative and criminal action against any officers and staff who fail to fully abide with the order.
