Under the Federal Government’s scholarship program, Nigerian students are presently enrolled in courses in Russia, Morocco, Algeria, China, Hungary, and other nations. However, they are currently experiencing a dire financial situation. These students have not received their stipends for the last eight months. They are recipients of the Federal Government’s Bilateral Educational Agreement Scholarship.
Promoting educational exchange between Nigeria and partner nations is the goal of the Bilateral Educational Agreement Scholarship. However, the students’ capacity to pay for necessities like accommodation, food, transportation, and school supplies has been severely hampered by the stipend payment delay.
Ayuba Anas, the president of the Union of Nigerian Students under the scholarship program, emphasized the difficulties that the students encountered, such as being forced to move and having health problems as a result of not having enough money.
He underlined that the Federal Government must act quickly to end their suffering and free them up to concentrate on their education.
The conditions of the scholarship program prevent the students from looking for work to support themselves, even if they are aware of Nigeria’s economic difficulties. They have pleaded with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step in and see to it that their stipends are paid out on time.
Regretfully, the Federal Ministry of Education has not responded to the predicament of the students. The students are still optimistic that President Tinubu will take notice of their issues and provide them the financial support they need to fulfill their academic objectives.
